Coins valued at $25K, guns and crossbow stolen from Parksville home

PARKSVILLE — Collectors coins valued at $25,000 and weapons have been stolen from a Parksville home.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman said it happened at a home under renovation in the 600 block of Forsyth Ave. between Aug. 27 and 29.

“The rare coins have got to be out there somewhere, (we’re hoping) that this will trigger somebody’s thoughts or maybe a phone call to us.”

He said the coins were stolen from two safes and a pair of rifles and a crossbow were among the weapons taken.

“Normally someone breaking into homes isn’t a collector of fine coins. They’d try to flip these for quick cash, absolutely.”

Foreman said the theft wasn’t originally noticed by the homeowners, who were busy with extensive renovations and didn’t check on the basement for an extended period.

He said the rifles were stowed away properly and its believed no ammunition was taken.

A list of coins stolen from the home:

  • 1 x 1oz gold Canadian maple
  • 3 x sheets of 25 maple grams
  • 1 x Anne of Green Gables gold coin
  • 500 x Silver Canadian Maples- 2012
  • 1 x 50g (1 gram squares) gold combi bar
  • 1 x 100g (1 gram squares) silver combi bar
  • 2 x Ron Paul silver 1oz coins
