PARKSVILLE – Two people were injured in a single vehicle crash on Highway 19 north of Nanoose.
It happened around 7:25 Tuesday morning near Ross Road. Sgt. Darrin Ramey of RCMP Central Island Traffic Services says after their initial investigation and from talking to witnesses, weather and road conditions may have been factors.
“From what we’ve seen and what we’ve seen of the vehicle and from witness reports it looks like it was raining quite heavily at the time,” he said. “And it may have been the vehicle hydroplaned and from that it’s like driving on ice.
Ramey says the driver lost control on the highway, went into the ditch and rolled, “The driver was pinned in the vehicle and had a head injury and the passenger sustained only a minor hand injury.”
The driver was airlifted to hospital in Victoria. Ramey says both occupants were wearing seat belts .
