PARKSVILLE – If you’re looking for a new challenge, the Parksville Volunteer Fire Department is looking for members.
They are currently recruiting and are hoping to add 5 or 6 people to their group of 38. Fire chief Marc Norris says they do see some turnover year to year.
“We don’t often have people leave because they don’t like the fire service,” he said. “They often leave because there’s not enough work for them here for their paying job or they leave for school or other opportunities.”
As part of the recruitment drive, Norris says they will open up their training session Jan. 15 to the public.
“We have some hose work going on, some ground ladder work and some pumps and apparatus operation going on,” said Norris. “What we’re interested in doing is just showing people how our training is organized, what they can anticipate and then hopefully that will encourage them to ask any questions they have.”
Application forms are available at the fire hall or online at their web site .
The closing date is Friday March 2 at 4 pm.
