NANAIMO — Local Mounties made an arrest in connection to a recent evening shooting in the city’s south end.
One individual was arrested, although charges have not been laid, following what police called a “targeted shooting” at Knowles Park, on the corner of Victoria Rd. and Rainer St. just before 9 p.m. on June 3.
Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien noted the individual arrested remains in police custody “on unrelated matters” and their investigation into the incident continues.
Witnesses and investigators said at the time a white Audi pulled up to the park around 8:40 p.m., with someone inside firing multiple shots towards something in Knowles Park, before speeding off, southbound towards Old Victoria Rd.
Mounties were able to locate the vehicle on Tuesday, June 9, leading to the arrest.
No injuries resulted from the shooting, although police would not comment whether anyone remained on scene connected to the incident.
As charges have not been formally laid, police are unable to release any identifying information about the suspect arrested.
