Musicians Lost Over the Weekend

Long weekends are typically cause for celebration. The final long weekend marking the “Unofficial End of Summer” before school begins.

Sadly, this past weekend, we lost a few musicians who made massive impacts not only in the music industry, but in our lives.

Friday, September 1st – Jimmy Buffett.
Jimmy passed away from complications of a rare form of skin cancer, Merkel-cell carcinoma. He was just 76 years old.
His style of music resonated with his fanbase, “parrotheads”, and was the basis of many of his businesses, (looking at you, Margaritaville). RIP, Jimmy Buffett.

Monday, September 4th – Steve Harwell
Steve was the frontman and co-founder of Smash Mouth. Their hits included “Walkin’ on the Sun”, “All Star” and a cover of The Monkees “I’m a Believer”.
It was announced on Sunday, September 3rd that he had entered hospice care due to final stages of liver failure. He was 56 years old.

Monday, September 4th – Gary Wright
Gary Wright, best known for “Dream Weaver” and “Love is Alive”, passed away yesterday after complications from Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia. He was 80 years old.
