NANAIMO — BC Ferries have announced more than a dozen smaller terminals are now providing wireless internet service.
The company stated Wi-Fi installation at 14 terminals completed on July 28, which includes the Nanaimo Harbour and Descanso Bay (Gabriola Island) terminals.
The service expansion is part of a $1.5 million provincially funded program aimed at better connecting British Columbians in smaller coastal communities.
“The coverage of Wi-Fi within BC Ferries’ terminals, includes public lounges, vehicle holding compounds and where practical, parking lots,” a BC Ferries release stated regarding the free service.
The company hopes to expand Wi-Fi service to other terminals in the near future.
A full list of the ferry terminals where free Wi-Fi service is now available can be viewed here.
The company shut down on-board wireless service last year due to increasing complaints with connectivity issues as ever-increasing users bogged down the system.
