OCEANSIDE — There were a lot of tourists in the Oceanside area in 2017.
As is usually the case, the majority visit in the summer months. Parksville-Qualicum Beach Tourism officials say the challenge is getting people to come back in off-peak periods.
Executive-director Blain Sepos says they will soon be talking to stakeholders about a destination development strategy for the area.
“Over the coming months we’re working with a group to survey and conduct some workshops that will allow us to start developing that strategy.”
The work being done in Oceanside coincides with a similar study being done province wide according to Sepos.
“Destination British Columbia is also working on similar strategies,” he said. “On a bigger regional and provincial scale. So this is really our opportunity to tap into what Destination BC is doing as well.”
At the local level, Sepos says they will be meeting with business associations, chambers of commerce and local government.
