PARKSVILLE — Hundreds of people who dedicate their lives to helping others will soon have their moment in the spotlight.
Mayor Mark Lefebvre said he was thrilled to honour Parksville volunteers by declaring April 23 to April 29 Volunteer Week, as part of a national initiative.
“They don’t talk about it, they just do it,” he said. “They don’t brag about it, they don’t look for recognition. It’s just something they want to do.”
Lefebvre said the City of Parksville was built on the backs of selfless volunteers.
“What goes on under the radar is remarkable,” he said.
“It’s almost unbelievable. We’ve got close to 1,000 volunteers.”
Though there isn’t a formal event this year to mark the week, the mayor said plans are in motion for a “massive” recognition event which will likely happen next year.
